I love these images that he has produced. I love the idea of wondering why he would have thought about doing this type of photography. When I originally look at his work I wonder what technique he would have used to create it this way but I also love the way that the colour changes the way it looks. Without the colour the image would look plain and boring, however adding the colour changed the way I look at it.

This image was the image I used to experiment what technique was best to create the rest of the images, although this image isn’t the natural landscape it is very similar to East Eric’s work. His most successful image was the paint on the train tracks; I think that I responded well to this artist. The technique I used for the rest of the images was diluting acrylic paint.
After creating a similar response to East Eric using the train tacks, I had decided that some of my images needed to have the natural landscape in to respond to my project theme, here is an image of my version of the natural landscape combined with an East Eric Response. |
I love the idea of his work, I think that it is very unique and makes people look at the landscape in different ways. Some people would look at this and wonder how he would have taken the image and some people would admire the colours and the location (the landscape) that he has chosen to photograph.
I was both of the people; I admired the colours in the image and thought that it would fit perfectly with the theme of my project but I also had to think about how he created them. His work appeals to me not only because of the colours but also because I like the detail that he has photographed - the colours emphasise the landscape. After viewing this photographer and analysing their work I really like the idea of combining the natural landscape and a digital colour together to create a digital version of the landscape. This is one of the hardest photographers to recreate, as I will have to find a way to make it look very similar, although I think that the outcome will look one of the best. |
Richard Mosse’s work involves turning the landscape of an image pink. The idea of using the infra effect is so that Mosse captures the beauty and tragedy in war and destruction. With the research that I had found, I learned that Mosse uses Kodak Aerochrome, a discontinued reconnaissance infrared film. The film registers chlorophyll in live vegetation. The result is the lush Congolese rainforest rendered into a beautifully surreal landscape of pinks and reds. Found on this website http://www.jackshainman.com/artists/richard-mosse/
The colours captured in this image are vibrant and change the way you view the image, the perception of war and violence is changed due to the colours used/ captured using the filters. |
I really like Filippo Minelli’s work because I think that although you notice the landscape, the main focus in his images are the smoke bombs or the colour that stands out from the background. This is perfect for my project because I think that it’s a different way to add the colour in the landscape. He adds the colour manually/ physically. This may be the hardest to recreate, it will be very time consuming that is something that I wouldn’t be able to achieve on my own due to the smoke bombs only going for less than a minute.

To create this image I think that Minelli would have first chosen his location. His work involves taking the images in winter where there’s snow. The focus of his images is to convert any perceptions that people may have. On Filippo Minelli’s website is states that the use of smoke bomb devices probably arose from the interest of the author for social and political issues: often used in protests, they generally refer to the imagery of the mass, of bustle, shouting and noise, maybe even violence. He wants to change this idea by taking these images in a calm, relaxing environment. I think that Minelli would have first taken his images in a location that best suited him. He would have then released the smoke bomb with the help of some collegue’s. Minelli names this project as silence/ shapes. He used chemicals to create the smoke bombs and to juxtapose them with the romantic idea of beauty in the landscape.
However Filippo Minelli doesn’t focus on colour in the natural landscape in the way that I do I will take the technique that he uses that is the smoke bombs. For my photos I am going to light the smoke bombs in the landscape in a different season. Before taking them I will have to purchase the smoke bombs and find out how he makes sure they are lit and how he does it. |
This is another image that I had created. I like this image because I think that the colours that I had chosen were not what you would interpret for a sky or sunset and I think that this looks better because the lines in the road are visible from the background, I used orange in the background and it has created a gradient effect moving towards the sunset.
